Taxi Boy and Cheap Ride got off quite lightly...
It was American Independence Day and despite fears of rampant boasting Yanks chorusing jingoistic anthems, the bus was almost full as it headed towards Go Vap. As we proceeded towards our eventual destination dark clouds began brewing. A quick stop at an orphanage where rice and other goodies were delivered, then on to the start of the run.
As the bus slowed to a stop, the rain began to fall. The briefing circle was briefly baffled by the appearance of an inebriated local who felt inclined to shake every hand ... offered or not! No new shoes, so head hare Peckerhead sent everyone on their way. The clay paths were quite slippery from the rain that had begun to ease. Soon we were under shelter in rubber tree plantation running on a bed of leaves which provided a better foot grip.
It only seemed like 10 minutes before we found the bus and the drink stop ... a 3km first leg. "On On", then it was back on the tracks and the rain had ceased. It was cool running with plenty of checks to keep the pack together. In fact there were so many checks that the walkers kept catching up to the runners. Good trail !!!
As the runners headed away past a cross-road the walkers spotted the bus ... so it was straight to the beer. The walkers surprised the bus people who had nothing ready. So it was all in to organise the place for the return of the runners ,,.. and the first one home was FRB Pissmeister.
Loudspeakers on a nearby 15 metre pole blared a Viet radio program as we refreshed. Being A.I.D., we had subsidised beer from Budweiser. The Circle called the Hares to answer with the "shortest ever" run scoring a -1.5 and the walk scoring an unbelievable 9.5 - a total of 8. The Hares took their down down before Religious Adviser Jack Off introduced an astonishing 13 virgins! Most were Peckerhead’s extended family. Visitors and returnees included Plucked Chicken and Bear Arse Beaver. All American passport holders were charged. Then some of those traditional American icons were given their true origins:
Apple Pie - British
Baseball - French
Halloween - Irish
Hamburger - German
Even the declaration of Independence was a copy of a Dutch document !
Another down down. GM Erectile Dysfunction then presented a new flag to the Yanks - a true representation of what the stars and stripes should be, recognising the massive input to the US culture from Britain and the European countries. Then all the British were charged for losing the War of Independence and foisting Americans on the unsuspecting world.
Pencil Dick was charged for presenting a website full of tits and bums and he quickly flick-passed the charge to Basil Thrush for supplying him with the disgusting pictures. Deadly Nightshade was quite fearful when she was iced for it being her 69th run since her last hare set. No up-ending was imminent and she was joined on the ice by FRB Pissmeister who earlier blamed his lady for not bringing his right shoes and glasses when she dropped him at the bus. Aaaawwwww!
Naming or Marty and Huyen followed with several suggestions put forward. The final choice by acclamation was Taxi Boy and Cheap Ride. Both received the traditional naming rites during which Huyen made a dash to escape - we might have to re-annoint Huyen this week.
Then the rain started again and it was back on the bus to the Indian Restaurant On On.
On On,
Basil Thrush E&OA
